Wildlife Safari

Original Northern Odessey Safari

5 day / 4 night itinerary

Day 1, 03 Sep 2026

Early morning pick up in Moshi for the start of your safari. (You will need to be in Tanzania the night before the safari start and we can arrange pre-safari accommodation & airport transfers – enquire).

Following a quick stop in Arusha town to allow time at the shops we head to Tarangire National Park for a picnic lunch and game viewing.

The Tarangire National Park is a place where elephants dot the plains, and where lion roars and zebra barks fill the night. Dominating the park’s 2850 sq km, Tarangire’s great stands of epic baobabs should be reason enough to visit. There are also sun-blistered termite mounds in abundance, as well as vast swamps and grassy savannah plains.

Accommodation at Roika Tarangire Safari Lodge (or similar) in a standard room on a full board basis for 1 night.

Day 2 & 3, 04 & 05 Sep 2026

Continue your safari to the Serengeti National Park famous for the annual wildebeest migration. The resident population of lion, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, and birds is also impressive. The park covers 5,700 sq miles, (14,763 sq km), it’s larger than Connecticut, with at most a couple hundred vehicles driving around.

The Park can be divided into 3 sections. The popular southern/central part (Seronera Valley), is what the Maasai called the “serengit”, the land of endless plains. It’s classic savannah, dotted with acacias and filled with wildlife. The western corridor is marked by the Grumeti River, and has more forests and dense bush. The north, Lobo area, meets up with Kenya’s Masai Mara Reserve, is the least visited section.

En-route you have the option to visit Ol Duvai Gorge and/or a Maasai Village.

**Optional extra: Hot air balloon safari in the Serengeti (pre-booking essential)

Accommodation at Serengeti Wilderness Camp (or similar) on a full board basis including local brand drinks for 2 nights.

Day 4, 06 Sep 2026

After a morning game drive leave the Serengeti behind and head to the fascinating Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, a World Heritage Site and the world’s largest inactive, intact volcanic caldera.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area is in northern Tanzania. It’s home to the vast, volcanic Ngorongoro Crater and “big 5” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino). Huge herds of wildebeests and zebras traverse its plains during their annual migration. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978 and is the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world. It measures about 16-19km in diameter, with walls of 400-610m in height, forming a natural reserve which is home to some of the densest large mammal populations found anywhere in Africa.

Spend the afternoon enjoying a game drive inside the Ngorongoro Crater.

Accommodation at Kudu Lodge (or similar) in a standard room on a full board basis for 1 night.

Day 5, 07 Sep 2026

Depart after breakfast for a game drive at Lake Manyara National Park. This compact park is remarkably diverse wildlife reserve nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment in northern Tanzania. Despite its relatively small size, the park is famous for its striking scenery, which ranges from groundwater forests and open grasslands to the alkaline Lake Manyara itself, often shimmering pink with thousands of flamingos. One of its most distinctive features is its population of tree-climbing lions, a rare behavior not commonly seen elsewhere. The park is also home to large herds of elephants, abundant birdlife, and hippos that gather in its shallow waters, making it a rich and varied ecosystem packed into a scenic landscape.

Time permitting stop for curio shopping and a picnic lunch en-route to Kilimanjaro International Airport (approx 4 hours by road), where the safari ends. Or, drop off in Moshi for the start of your Kilimanjaro climb or consider extending your stay with a few days at one of the islands after your safari – enquire for options.

**We recommend that you don’t book a flight departing earlier than 18h00 on this day.

**Option to book a day room at a hotel near the airport for the afternoon or overnight. Enquire for details.
