Wildlife Safari
4 day / 3 night itinerary
Early morning pick up in Moshi for the start of your safari. (You will need to be in Tanzania the night before the safari start and we can arrange pre-safari accommodation & airport transfers – enquire).
We head to Mkomazi National Park for a picnic lunch and game viewing.
Tucked away in the northeastern corner of Tanzania, Mkomazi National Park is one of East Africa’s most untouched safari areas. Stretching across vast semi-arid landscapes beneath open skies, the park offers a raw and authentic wilderness experience far from the crowded tourist trails.
Bordering Kenya’s famous Tsavo National Park ecosystem, Mkomazi forms part of a crucial migratory corridor for wildlife moving between the two countries. The park’s scenery is strikingly diverse — rolling savannahs, baobab-dotted plains, rocky hills, and distant mountain views create a dramatic backdrop for exploration. On clear days, visitors can even catch glimpses of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro rising above the horizon.
Mkomazi is especially celebrated for its conservation success stories. The park serves as a sanctuary for endangered black rhinos and African wild dogs, two of the continent’s rarest species. Carefully protected breeding and rehabilitation programs have helped restore populations that once faced near extinction. This commitment to conservation gives visitors a rare opportunity to witness wildlife protection in action while experiencing nature in its purest form.
Game drives through the park reveal a rich variety of animals including elephants, giraffes, zebras, elands, hartebeests, buffaloes, and numerous antelope species. Bird enthusiasts are equally rewarded, as Mkomazi hosts hundreds of bird species ranging from colorful kingfishers to large birds of prey soaring above the plains.
Unlike many heavily visited safari parks, Mkomazi offers tranquility and exclusivity. Travelers can enjoy peaceful landscapes, uncrowded wildlife sightings, and a deep connection with nature. The silence of the wilderness, interrupted only by birdsong or the distant call of animals, creates an atmosphere that feels both timeless and unforgettable.
Accommodation at Mkomazi Wilderness Retreat on a full board basis, teas, coffees, drinking water, welcome drink & appetizers from 18h00 pm (excluding drinks).
Today you get to experience the wild side of Mkomazi enjoying a guided walking safari led by an armed ranger, where every step brings you closer to nature and the thrill of encountering wildlife on foot.
We take our safari vehicle deep into the park for an exclusive visit to the renowned Rhino Project, where expert conservation rangers share insight about the protection of endangered black rhinos within their secure sanctuary. Depending on availability, you may also have the rare opportunity to visit the African wild dogs project and gain fascinating insight into the conservation of one of Africa’s most endangered predators.
