13 day / 12 night itinerary – Private Departure

Day 1, Sunday, 03 Sep 2023

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met and transferred to the town of Moshi at the foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro (45 minutes road trip). Meet the Paraglide Kilimanjaro team & briefing this afternoon.
1 night accommodation in Moshi at our team hotel on a bed and breakfast basis.

*You can arrive at any time at Kilimanjaro airport this day, however we encourage you to try and arrive before 14h00 pm on this day to allow time for you to settle in & rest before the start of your hike.

Day 2 - 7, Monday, 04-09 Sep 2023

A scenic drive to the start of the hike (approx. 3 hour road trip) from where the path leads you through the lush green forest hugging Africa’s giant – Mt Kilimanjaro. We ascend from the North and camp just outside the rainforest.

Distance 6,5 km/4 miles Approx. hike time 2-3 hrs

Trek higher up the Nothern slopes with fantastic mountain vegetation. Enjoy views to the south of Kibo with the Eastern ice fields on the crater rim and the plains of Kenya on the horizon towards the north.

Distance 9km/5,6miles Approx. hike time 6-7 hrs

The jagged peaks of Mawenzi invite us for a closer look this day with an afternoon acclimatisation hike planned. Spend the night camping at the base of Mawenzi.

Distance 6km/3,7miles Approx. hike time 3-4hrs

Cross the flat saddle to our base camp and spend the afternoon resting and preparing for your first assault on the summit which begins around midnight.

Elevation 4,310m/14,140ft – 4,700m/15,420ft ASL
Distance 9km/5,6miles Approx. hike time 5-6 hrs

From the base camp we lead you to the summit via the crater rim. Uhuru Peak, 5,895 m/19,341 ft, dominates the landscape offering you a breathtaking sunrise, and if weather permits an opportunity launch from the top straight away. Should conditions not allow you to spread your wings, additional nights are built into the expedition route to allow more time to possibly fly from Africa’s tallest mountain. Reserve days for climbing and flying in case of bad weather with overnight back at base camp at 4,700m.

Base Camp to Crater Rim 5-6 hrs Plus 1.5 – 2hrs to Uhuru Peak


If you managed to launch successfully, you get to enjoy a magical flight from the Roof of Africa that should last more than an hour by paraglider. Landing at one of the designated landing areas, our retrieve crew will collect you and take you back to the hotel in Moshi for a shower, celebrations and overnight.


Though our team will make every effort to assist with a successful and safe flight, there is always the chance of walking back down. In this case a descent on foot down to Moshi with a night en-route as a contingency is planned for any unlucky pilots who do not manage to get off in a safe flying window.

Non-flyers/hikers will hike alongside the paragliders and follow the same itinerary from Mountain day 1 to 4.
On Mountain day 5 hikers summit together with the paragliders where after the hikers will start their descend on foot back to base camp for overnight. Mountain day 5 would be the hikers final night spent on the mountain. Non-flyers will hike out of the park on Mountain day 6 and return to the hotel in Moshi.

Note: All hikers have to follow the same itinerary and this needs to be decided before the hike commence.

Day 8, Sunday, 10 Sep 2023

Paragliders on foot have a little bit more time in Kilimanjaro National Park’s rainforest as they walk out. Take time to enjoy the stillness in the mist and lush vegetation. From the park’s gate our vehicle will take you back to Moshi to join up with the non-flyers for celebrations and overnight. Accommodation at our team hotel in Moshi on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 9, Monday, 11 Sep 2023

Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Alternatively, make the most of your African adventure and add on a few days for a safari or beach holiday.

If you are joining the Safari, you will be picked up early morning in Moshi for the start of your safari. Drive to Ngorongoro Crater (approx. 4-5 hour drive from Moshi) where you enjoy a game drive inside the crater and picnic lunch. In the evening spend the night at Rhino Lodge (or similar) on a full board basis.

Day 10 & 11, Tuesday, 12-13 Sep 2023

Continue your safari to the Serengeti National Park famed for the annual wildebeest migration (approx. 4-5 hour drive). Spend 2 nights here at Serengeti Wilderness Camp which includes 3 meals a day, with all snacks, filtered drinking water, house wine, local beer and sodas are included. Coffee and tea are available throughout the day. on a full board basis including drinks (local beers, wines and soft drinks).

Day 12, Thursday, 14 Sep 2023

Leave the Serengeti behind and head to Lake Manyara area (approx. 4-5 hour drive). Spend the night at Bougainvillea Safari Lodge (or similar) on a full board basis.

Day 13, Friday, 15 Sep 2023

In the morning visit Lake Manyara National Park before heading to Kilimanjaro International Airport where your safari comes to an end (approx. 3-4 hour drive).

*You should be in time for a flight departing Kilimanjaro after 15h00 pm on this day.

*We can assist with additional night’s accommodation if required to connect your international flight back home. Enquire.

Note

Hiking and paragliding from Kilimanjaro is of course very weather dependent. Though our team will make every effort to support a successful and safe expedition, if the conditions are not suitable we cannot guarantee that you will be able to paraglide. 

These are not standard holidays. Climbing to a high altitude and paragliding are genuinely dangerous things to do. The effects of altitude are not just physical, but also have a dynamic impact on the performance of a paraglider. These expeditions are for experienced paragliding pilots who understand the risks involved. Contact us to discuss experience level required. If you are considering this trip to tandem paraglide as a passenger with a friend, you must have flown as a passenger prior to the expedition. Enquire for tandem service.
